If you sell online in Bangladesh, you already know the questions by heart. "Price koto?", "XL ase?", "Chattogram e delivery charge koto?", "Exchange kora jabe?". The same handful of questions arrive all day and late into the night, and every minute a customer waits for an answer, the chance of an order drops.

An AI chatbot for an online shop in Bangladesh can answer these questions instantly, in Bangla, Banglish or English, using your own prices, stock and policies. This guide explains how these assistants work, what they should and should not do, how to prepare your shop's information, and when a real person should take over.

AI shopping assistant vs old rule-based chatbots

Many sellers tried chatbots a few years ago and were disappointed. Those were mostly rule-based bots: you built a menu of buttons ("1. Price list, 2. Delivery info") and keyword triggers ("if message contains 'price', send this text"). They broke as soon as a customer typed "dam koto bhai" instead of "price".

An AI shopping assistant works differently. It reads the customer's question in normal language, finds the relevant facts in your shop's information, and writes a short answer in the customer's own style.

Follow-up questionsUsually lost ("Sorry, I didn't understand")Keeps the conversation going ("Ar blue colour ta?")
When your price changesYou update every ruleIt reads the new price from your product list

The last row matters most, and we come back to it below.

What an AI chatbot for an online shop in Bangladesh should answer

Look at your last 100 Messenger conversations. Most likely, the majority are some version of these:

  • Price: "How much is the black kurti?" The assistant should give the current price, and the offer price if there is one.
  • Stock and variants: "Do you have it in size L?", "Ei colour ta ase?" It should check what is actually in stock, not what was in stock last week.
  • Size and fit: "I am 5'4, which size?" It should answer from your size chart, not from general fashion advice.
  • Delivery charge and time: "Sylhet e koto din lagbe?" It should know your inside Dhaka and outside Dhaka charges, any free delivery offer, and your usual delivery time.
  • Payment: "Cash on delivery ase?" or "Advance dite hobe?"
  • Returns and exchange: what you accept, within how many days, and who pays the delivery charge.
  • Contact and shop details: phone number, WhatsApp, shop address or pickup point, opening hours.
  • Product links: a direct link to the product page, so the customer can see photos and order.

If an assistant can handle these eight areas well, it will take a large share of repetitive work off your hands. For the delivery side, it helps to have your charges clearly decided first; see how to set delivery charges inside and outside Dhaka.

Why answers must come only from your own information

This is the single most important point when choosing or setting up an AI chatbot. General AI models know a lot about the world, but they know nothing about your shop. If a model is allowed to "fill in the gaps", it may invent a price, promise free delivery you never offered, or confirm an exchange policy you don't have.

For a shop, a confident wrong answer is worse than no answer. A customer who was told "৳1,200 with free delivery" and is then charged ৳1,350 at the door may refuse the parcel, and you pay the return cost.

A good shop assistant should:

  • Answer only from your data: your products, prices, stock, delivery charges, contact details and the notes and files you give it.
  • Say when it is not sure: "I don't have that information, please call us at 01XXXXXXXXX" is a perfectly good answer.
  • Never make promises you didn't make: no invented discounts, delivery dates or guarantees.
  • Use live data for prices and stock: if you change a price in your dashboard, the assistant's answer should change too, without retraining anything.

Bangla, Banglish and English: talk like your customers

Bangladeshi customers type in three different ways, often in the same conversation:

  • Bangla script: "এই শাড়িটার দাম কত?"
  • Banglish: "ei sharee tar dam koto?"
  • English: "What is the price of this saree?"

Your assistant should understand all three and reply in the same style the customer used. A reply in formal English to someone who wrote in Banglish feels cold; a reply in Bangla script to someone who wrote in English may be hard for them to read on a small screen.

Also check how it handles mixed messages, local words and common spellings: "dam", "daam" and "price" all mean the same thing, and "ase", "ache" and "available" all ask about stock.

How to prepare your shop's knowledge

The assistant is only as good as the information you give it. Spend an afternoon getting this ready, and you will save hours every week.

1. Product list with prices and stock

Make sure every product in your store has a clear name, the correct price, the old price if it is on sale, and the real stock count. Vague names like "New item 05" make it hard for both customers and the assistant. Our guide to writing product titles and descriptions helps here, and keeping stock accurate matters even more once an assistant is quoting it.

2. Policies in plain words

Write short, clear answers for:

  • Delivery charge inside Dhaka and outside Dhaka, and any free delivery amount.
  • Delivery time, for example "Inside Dhaka 1 to 2 days, outside Dhaka 2 to 4 days" (use your own real numbers).
  • Payment methods you accept today.
  • Return and exchange rules: which items, how many days, condition, and who pays the courier charge.
  • Whether you ask for an advance on some orders, and how much.

3. Size charts and measurements

For clothing and shoes, a size chart in a table (chest, length, waist, shoe length in cm or inches) lets the assistant answer "which size for me?" correctly. For gadgets, include model numbers, compatibility and warranty terms. For food, include weight, ingredients and how long it stays fresh.

4. Your real FAQs

Copy the ten questions you answer most often, with your best answers, into one document. Include the awkward ones: "Is this original?", "Why is the price higher than another page?", "Can I see the product before paying?".

5. A few facts about the shop

Shop name, phone, WhatsApp number, Facebook Page, physical address or pickup point, and hours when a human replies. This is what the assistant points to when it can't answer.

Setting up an AI chatbot on your website

Your website is the best place to start, because the assistant sits right next to the products and can link straight to them. A typical setup looks like this:

  1. Switch on the chat widget on your store website.
  2. Add your knowledge: notes and files with your policies, size charts and FAQs. Products, prices and stock should come from your store automatically.
  3. Brand it: your colour, your logo, a name for the assistant (for example "Rupkotha Assistant"), and a friendly greeting such as "Assalamu alaikum! How can I help you today?".
  4. Add suggested questions: three or four buttons like "Delivery charge koto?", "Size chart", "Exchange policy" help customers start.
  5. Test with real questions in Bangla, Banglish and English, including questions it should not be able to answer.
  6. Tell customers it exists: mention in your Facebook posts that they can get instant answers on the website.

What about Facebook Messenger and comments?

Many shoppers still ask on your Facebook Page first. Automating Messenger and comment replies is possible, but Facebook has its own rules for automated messages, and any tool you use has to follow them. Even before that, a website assistant helps: when a customer asks in Messenger, you can reply with your product link, and the customer gets instant answers on the website while browsing.

Measuring whether your chatbot is working

Don't just switch it on and forget it. Once a week for the first month, check:

  • Common questions: what do people ask most? If many ask about something your information doesn't cover, add it.
  • "I'm not sure" answers: each one is a gap in your knowledge. Fill it.
  • Wrong or outdated answers: usually a sign that a price, stock count or policy in your data is old.
  • Orders after chats: are customers who chat placing orders? Compare your order count before and after, in similar weeks (not Eid week against a normal week).
  • Messages that still reach you: if Messenger questions about delivery charges drop, the assistant and your website are doing their job.

Limits, and when a human should take over

An AI assistant is a helper, not a replacement for you. Be honest with yourself about what it should not handle:

  • Complaints and damaged parcels: an upset customer wants a person who can fix the problem.
  • Refunds and money matters: anything involving sending money back should go to you.
  • Bulk or wholesale orders and custom requests: negotiations need a human.
  • Order status and changes: unless your system connects the assistant to live order tracking, ask customers to call or message you.
  • Anything sensitive: never let customers share passwords, card numbers or bKash PINs in any chat, and say so clearly.

Make the handover easy. Your assistant should always be able to point to a phone number or WhatsApp, and you should answer those quickly. A chatbot that traps people in loops does more harm than good.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Turning it on with empty or outdated product information.
  • Writing policies in vague words ("delivery charge depends") that the assistant can't turn into a clear answer.
  • Forgetting to update the knowledge before Eid, Puja or sale campaigns, when delivery times and offers change.
  • Hiding your phone number because "the bot handles everything".

Frequently asked questions

Can an AI chatbot reply in Bangla?

Yes. Modern AI assistants understand Bangla script, Banglish (Bangla written in English letters) and English, and can reply in the same style the customer used. Check this yourself before choosing a tool by asking a few real customer questions in each style.

Will an AI chatbot give customers wrong prices?

It can if it is allowed to guess. A good shop assistant answers only from your own product list, prices and notes, and says it is not sure when the answer is not there. Keep your prices and stock up to date, because the assistant can only be as correct as the information you give it.

Do I still need a person to handle customers?

Yes. The assistant handles the repetitive questions, such as price, size, stock and delivery charge, so you have more time for the conversations that need a human: complaints, damaged parcels, refunds, bulk orders and special requests. Always show customers a phone or WhatsApp number they can use.

What is the difference between a rule-based chatbot and an AI chatbot?

A rule-based chatbot follows fixed buttons and keyword rules that you set up one by one, and breaks when the customer types something unexpected. An AI chatbot understands the question in normal language and writes an answer from your information, so it handles spelling mistakes, Banglish and follow-up questions much better.

Can I use an AI chatbot on my Facebook Page Messenger?

Some tools offer Messenger automation, and Facebook has its own rules for automated messages that any tool must follow. In EasyMall, the AI chat assistant works on your store website today, and Facebook Messenger and comment auto-replies are coming soon.
