Most online businesses in Bangladesh start on Facebook. A Page, a few product photos, and orders come in through comments and Messenger. It works, until it doesn't: questions about price get asked a hundred times a day, addresses arrive in pieces, and there is no place where a customer can simply see everything you sell and order it.
That is the moment to create an e-commerce website. This guide walks you through the whole process for a Bangladeshi shop, from choosing how to build it to taking your first cash on delivery order. No coding knowledge needed.
What an e-commerce website actually does for your shop
An e-commerce website is more than a nicer-looking catalogue. For a Bangladeshi seller it solves concrete problems:
- Customers order without waiting for you. They see the price, stock and delivery charge, and place the order at 2 a.m. while you sleep.
- Orders arrive complete. Name, phone number, full address and the delivery area are collected in the right format every time, instead of being pieced together from a chat.
- One link for everything. You can put it in your Facebook bio, Instagram profile, WhatsApp status, ads and printed packaging.
- Google can find you. A Facebook post disappears from people's feeds in a day. A product page on your website can be found in Google search for years.
- It builds trust. Many shoppers are more comfortable ordering from a shop that has its own website and domain.
Step 1: Choose how you'll build the website
There are three common ways to build an online store in Bangladesh. Each one suits a different stage of business.
| Option | Good for | What to watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| Hire a developer or agency for a custom site | Large brands with specific needs and a budget | Highest cost; you depend on the developer for every change; hosting, security and updates are your job |
| WordPress with WooCommerce | People who are comfortable managing a website | You need hosting, plugins, a theme and regular updates; local payment and courier plugins vary in quality |
| A hosted store builder | Most small and medium sellers | Check that it supports cash on delivery, Taka prices and delivery charges inside and outside Dhaka |
For most Facebook sellers, a hosted store builder is the fastest and cheapest way to start. You don't manage servers, the website is secure (HTTPS) by default, and you can change things yourself without calling a developer.
When you compare builders, check these points:
- Built for Bangladesh: prices in Taka, cash on delivery, delivery charges by area, Bangla-friendly fonts.
- Mobile first: most of your customers will order from a phone. Open the demo store on your own phone.
- Easy editing: you should be able to change text, photos and colours yourself.
- Your own domain: you should be able to connect a domain like yourshop.com or yourshop.com.bd, with SSL included.
- Orders and stock in one place: a list of orders with status, and stock that goes down automatically when something is ordered.
Step 2: Pick your shop name and domain
Your domain is your shop's address on the internet. Keep it short, easy to spell when said aloud, and close to your Facebook Page name, so customers recognise it.
- .com is the most familiar ending worldwide and is quick to buy from any domain registrar.
- .com.bd shows that you are a Bangladeshi business. It is registered through BTCL and resellers, and usually takes longer and needs more documents than a .com.
- Avoid hyphens and numbers if you can. "rupkotha-fashion-bd24" is hard to remember.
You don't need a domain on day one. With EasyMall, every store gets a free address like yourshop.easymall.app as soon as you sign up, and you can connect your own domain later. SSL (the padlock in the browser) is included either way.
Step 3: Set up the store and its design
Once you have chosen a platform, set up the basics before adding products:
- Logo and colours. Use your Facebook Page logo and brand colour so the website feels like the same shop.
- Homepage banner. One clear photo and one line that says what you sell, for example "Handmade cotton sarees, delivered all over Bangladesh".
- Announcement bar. A short line at the top for your current offer: "Free delivery inside Dhaka over ৳1,500".
- Contact details. Phone number, WhatsApp link, Facebook Page link and email in the footer. Customers check these before they order.
- Policies. Delivery time, return and exchange rules, and how payment works. Short and clear.
In EasyMall you change all of this in the website editor: click a text to rewrite it, upload a new image, and pick colours, including the announcement bar and the page background. The preview updates as you type.
Step 4: Add your products properly
Your product pages do the selling when you are not there, so take the time to do them well.
- Clear names. "Women's Cotton Kurti, Blue, Size M-XL" works better than "New arrival 🔥". People search for what the product is.
- Real photos. Bright, natural light, the product filling the frame, and a clean background. Read our guide to product photography with your phone. EasyMall can remove a photo's background for free, right in your browser.
- Price and offer. Show the current price, and the old price if it is on sale.
- Stock. Enter how many you have. When it reaches zero, the product shows "out of stock" instead of taking orders you can't deliver.
- Description. Size, material, measurements, colour, what is included, and care instructions. Answer the questions customers ask you in Messenger every day.
- Categories and sections. Group products so people can browse, for example "Sarees", "Kurtis" and "New arrivals".
Step 5: Set up checkout, cash on delivery and delivery charges
This is where Bangladeshi stores differ from stores abroad. Most of your customers will pay cash on delivery (COD), and the delivery charge depends on where they live.
A good checkout for Bangladesh:
- Asks for name, mobile number and full address and checks that the phone number is a valid Bangladeshi mobile number.
- Lets the customer choose Inside Dhaka or Outside Dhaka, and shows the delivery charge for each before they confirm.
- Optionally gives free delivery above an amount, which raises the average order value.
- Shows a confirmation page with the order number and the total to pay on delivery.
In EasyMall you set the inside and outside Dhaka charges and the free delivery amount in the website editor. Every order gets its own number, the stock goes down automatically, and the order appears in your dashboard where you confirm, deliver, cancel or mark it returned. Cancelled and returned orders put the stock back.

Step 6: Plan delivery and handle fake orders
Before your first order arrives, decide how you'll deliver it. Most online shops use a courier service with a merchant account, which picks up from you and collects the cash from the customer. Compare couriers on coverage, delivery time, COD charge and how fast they pay you. Our guide to choosing a courier service covers what to ask.
With cash on delivery comes the biggest headache of Bangladeshi e-commerce: orders that are never accepted. Simple habits help a lot. Call or message to confirm orders above a certain value, especially from new customers. Keep an eye on numbers that have returned orders before. Ask for a small advance on high-value or outside-Dhaka orders. More ideas in how to reduce fake orders.
Step 7: Answer customer questions instantly
Even with a website, customers ask questions: "Is this available in XL?", "How many days to Chattogram?", "Do you have exchange?". If nobody answers quickly, they leave.
An AI assistant on your website can answer these from your own product list, prices, stock and delivery charges, and from your notes and documents, in Bangla, Banglish or English. EasyMall includes a website chat assistant you can switch on, customise with your colours and logo, and teach with your return policy, size charts and FAQs. Step 8: Launch and bring in your first visitors
A website with no visitors sells nothing. On launch day:
- Put the website link in your Facebook Page button ("Shop now"), bio and pinned post.
- Share product links in Messenger and WhatsApp replies instead of typing prices again.
- Use the website link in your Facebook and Instagram ads, so people land on the product and can order directly.
- Print the address on your packaging and receipts, so customers come back to order again.
- Write clear product names and descriptions, so the pages can show up in Google search over time.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Waiting for perfection. Launch with your 10 best products, then add more each week.
- Blurry, dark photos. Photos sell. Retake them in daylight.
- Hiding the delivery charge. Customers who are surprised by the charge at the door refuse the parcel.
- No phone number on the site. Many customers want to call before they order.
- Letting stock go wrong. Selling something that's out of stock means a cancelled order and an unhappy customer.

Frequently asked questions
How much does an e-commerce website cost in Bangladesh?
It depends on how you build it. A custom-built site from an agency is a one-time development cost plus hosting and maintenance every year. A hosted store builder replaces all of that with a monthly or yearly subscription, and you can usually start on a free trial. Budget separately for a domain name, which is a yearly fee.
Can I run an online shop in Bangladesh without a website?
Yes, many shops sell only through a Facebook Page. But a website gives you a proper product catalogue, a checkout that collects the address and phone number correctly, a link you can share in ads and bio, and a way to be found on Google. Most growing sellers end up using both: Facebook to reach people, the website to take orders.
Do I need a trade license to open an e-commerce website?
You can build and test a website without one, but to run a business properly, open a business bank account and work with payment gateways, you will need a trade license from your local city corporation or union parishad. Many sellers also register for a DBID with the Ministry of Commerce.
Can customers pay with cash on delivery on my website?
Yes. Cash on delivery is still the most common way Bangladeshi shoppers pay online. Your checkout should collect name, phone and full address, and show the delivery charge before the customer confirms.
How long does it take to launch?
With a store builder like EasyMall, a basic store is live within an hour: sign up, add products, set delivery charges and share the link. Building a custom site usually takes weeks.
